Wente Vineyards is the country's oldest continuously operated family-owned winery. For five generations the Wente family has been making wine in Livermore Valley. Less than an hour east of San Francisco, Livermore Valley is one of California's most historically important wine regions, playing a pivotal role in shaping the state's wine industry. In the 1840's, California pioneers looking for outstanding vineyard sites began planting grapes in the region. Robert Livermore planted the first commercial vines in the 1840s.
