Trade Ambassador Helps With Harvest

Chief Agriculture Negotiator visits almond orchard and Blue Diamond. It's light years from the heady atmosphere of the World Trade Organization negotiating table in Geneva, Switzerland, to a hot, dry Westside almond orchard at harvest time, but Ambassador Allen F. Johnson, Chief Agriculture Negotiator for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) made the leap effortlessly. His visit to Blue Diamond Director Aldo Sansoni's Delta Farms almond orchard August 12 and the Blue Diamond plant in Sacramento the following day were two of seven stops for Johnson in a week of California "work days." This was his third set of workdays in three years. He began the visits, he says, to give himself "first-hand knowledge from farmers and ranchers across America." He feels that the insights he gains increase his effectiveness at USTR.
