Drillship arrives for Cote d'lvoire deep wildcat

A drillship is approaching Cote d'lvoire for a deepwater wildcat for Vitol in the less explored west of the country. The Ocean Rig Olympia is en route to the San Pedro Basin where it will drill the 300m boe Aigle well in CI-508. The block is towards the western border with Liberia and only one well has previously been drilled in the acreage. The San Pedro-1 well was drilled by Vanco in 2005 in what was then CI-112 in partnership with CNOOC and India's OIL and ONGC. It was drilled in 5,692ft (1,735m) water depth but no hydrocarbons were encountered in the primary Cretaceous Al-bian target (see AOG 6 May 2005).
