Economic situation in the plastics industry: Strong slowdown in the second half of 2019 - Better prospects for 2020

The business in the plastics sector exhibited a negative development also in the second half of 2019 and fell short of the already low expectations from the middle of the year. In spite of all the challenges to which the sector sees itself exposed, cautious optimism is prevailing for 2020. The latest survey dated January 2020 which the sectoral service called ?KI - Plastics Information" conducted about the economic situation in the plastics industry comes to this result. In biannual intervals since 2001, Kl has surveyed managers in the plastics industry, amongst other subjects, about the business performance and forcast as well as about investments and employment and has thus supplied, according to its own information, probably the most meaningful picture of the mood in the plastics industry. The present results are based on the information provided by 560 participating companies.
