Rethinking RINs

NEW YORK — Rumors of possible changes to renewable fuels legislation in the US sent prices for blending credits known as renewable identi- fication numbers (RINs) on a roller-coaster ride at end-September. Prices have since stabilized, but traders and brokers are keeping a wary eye on deliberations in Washington, as the anticipated changes to the country’s Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) could affect not only prices for credits, but gaso- line costs and exports as well.
