After paying tribute to the traditional owners of the land, she introduced Darren Bayley, Director of the College. He outlined the history of the field day from its humble beginnings to the present event with thronging attendance and patronisation by some 24 trade exhibitors, food and drink outlets. The field day has always been the child of the Hunter Valley Branch of the Amateur Beekeepers' Association of NSW (HVABA), the Hunter Valley Branch of The Apiarists' Association of NSW and the NSW Department of (Agriculture) Primary Industries. The staff and management of Tocal College have provided the venuefor many years, but with its expansion in the sphere of beekeeping the college staff have very effectively assumed the organisation role, seeking presenters, planning the program and accommodating the ever increasing number of trade exhibitors.
