ContiTech has developed a new product for printing securities, high-quality film embossing (hot film/cold film), and sheet-fed printing: an enhanced printing blanket with a cover layer made of tiny glass beads. Whether it is hologram films for bank notes and certificates, or embossed foils for high-quality Swiss chocolate, the company's extremely resilient and durable Black Pearl product plays a key role in the hot embossing process, applying a thin, plastic film to the printing stock by means of pressure and heat, and not printing ink. On the one hand, it must have an ink-repellent surface so that no ink is smeared on the printed sheet or other guide elements of the machine; on the other hand, it must withstand press forces of up to 60t, and therefore requires high mechanical stability.
