Dhaka-Bangladesh, concerned about losing its largest gas producer Chevron, has initiated a process to acquire the US major’s assets, which account for nearly 58% of the gas-starved country’s total production. One of the reasons why Chevron might be looking to exit Bangladesh, according to market sources, could be the government’s rejection of the company’s request in 2015 to hike gas prices, forcing it to withdraw its plan to invest $650 million in the assets. But company officials have been tight-lipped on the issue.
