A student's reflection on the 2010 NZHS Conference

I didn't really know what to expect from the New Zealand Hydrological Conference. I had never been to a conference before. And I am not sure that I am a hydrologist—I am a geographer interested in water. My biologist friends told me that a conference is where you go to run an intellectual gauntlet—a place where one gets berated by prominent scientists in front of a large crowd. Truthfully, it sounded a little intimidating. But I figured there would be solidarity in the experience. I was one of four of Dr Sam Trowsdale's students from The University of Auckland School of Environment presenting postgraduate research.
