E. Asia bulk scrap prices uptick, mills hold back

The East Asian bulk HMS scrap market saw yet another uptick this week on higher priced deals and offers, though with most buyers remaining on the sidelines due to a stale product market, regional industry sources said. S&P Global Platts assessed the East Asia bulk HMS I/II 80:20 price at $337-$343/mt CFR, with a midpoint of $340/mt, up $4.5/mt from the previous week. A US-origin HMS I priced deal was concluded to a South Korean mill at $338/mt CFR last Tuesday, which was then followed by another US-origin HMS I/II 80:20 deal on Thursday to a south Vietnam mill at $348/mt CFR for 35,000 mt, market sources said.
