The present invention relates to a method for calculating a ship price index for providing Asian ship price index which accurately reflects the current status of a global marine transportation market through changes in ship prices; can be utilized as an actual index; can be differentiated from conventional Clarksons Researchs ship price index or China newbuilding price index (CNPI) in view of timeliness of an announcement period and validity and transparency of a generation process; and can be utilized as basic data for identifying a trend in a conventional marine transportation market and a hedging means for avoiding risks in a series of marine transportation trades, and to a ship price index mediating service method using the same. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of: (S100) selecting a representative ship model for each kind of ships through panel data of the pre-selected panelist; (S110) preparing a table for refining standard price index data and building a database (DB) for new, old and demolition ships; (S120) inputting essential contract information on the table for new, old, and demolition ships to build a standard ship price DB; (S130) using the built DB in a freight rate index calculation device where a calculation program for calculating a maritime freight rate index is installed to generate ship price index for each ship model for new, old, and demolition ships; (S140) dividing an amount of transaction for each ship model for the generated ship price index by sum of transaction for each ship model to derive weighted value; and (S150) using the derived weighted value for each kind of ships to calculate a comprehensive ship price index.
