For the past few months, all sectors of the NHS seem to have been gearing themselves towards a fanfare of celebration on 5 July to mark the 60th anniversary of that institution and, indeed, The Pharmaceutical Journal is also celebrating the event in this issue. No one pretends that the NHS is perfect, and we can no longer claim to have the best health service in the world, since some of our European colleagues spend more and provide more.
