The Chinese Government continues to give small but credible indications that it is transforming the country's organ donor system-long reliant on the organs of executed prisoners-to conform with international ethical principles. This month, the head of the country's organ transplant office Huang Jiefu announced that the system would begin to phase out the supply of organs from executed prisoners in November, 2013, and accredited transplant hospitals would be compelled to shift to organs voluntarily donated by the general population.
