Adrienne Germain: helping to shape policy for women's health.

"Women are nothing but parasites". This was just one of the distinctly unenlightened views that Adrienne Germain encountered when she first moved to Bangladesh for The Ford Foundation in 1981. This particular view came from a senior agriculture official in the Bangladesh Government, who later became an ally. Germain, who is now the President of the International Women's Health Coalition (IWHC), a not-for-profit organisation based in New York, USA, has spent her career educating people with power about the realities of women's lives and helping shape global policy on women's health and human rights.
