WORLD EXPORT COMMITMENTS EXCEED 6 MILLION TONS

World export commitments for 1994/95 rose an estimated 700,000 tons between mid-January and mid-March and reached a record for mid-March of 6 million tons, exceeding world exports during all of 1993/94. Most of the increase in world trade during 1994/95 is coming from increased purchases by China (Mainland) and Pakistan. Also during the period between mid-January and mid-March, world cotton prices reached record highs. More than 400,000 tons of additional commitments are expected to be completed by the end of 1994/95.
