Brazil oil workers set 24-hour strike for Friday

Rio de Janeiro-Brazilian oil workers will hold a 24-hour “warning” strike Friday, but neither the union nor state-led oil company Petrobras expect production or domestic fuel supplies to be affected, the two parties said Tuesday. The strike is scheduled to start at midnight Friday, according to the Federal Oil Workers Union (FUP) and the National Oil Workers Federation (FNP). The two rival umbrella unions represent most of Petro- bras’ 80,000 workers. The unions are protesting the company’s plans to sell off $15.1 billion worth of assets over the next two years as it works to pay down more than $100 billion in net debt.
