Singapore—The Asian refinery maintenance season in the second quarter of 2014 will peak in May with a total of at least 2.13 million b/d of crude distillation capacity— equivalent to 6.2% of total CDU capacity in Asia—taken offline across the region, according to data compiled by Platts from company statements and industry sources. The survey of shutdowns primarily examined crude distillation capacity since it has the biggest impact on crude demand in the region. The closures represent 6.2% of the refining capacity in Asia, based on a total capacity level of 34.19 million b/d as calculated by the International Energy Agency in its Medium- Term Outlook published in June 2013. Japan has the most refining capacity being taken offline in May—at least 915,000 b/d.
