Ecuador's top court lowers chevron's payment

Quito-Ecuador's top court, the National Court of Justice, reduced the damages US oil major Chevron was ordered to pay plaintiffs in an environmental case to $9.51 billion, from close to $19 billion, in its final review of lower court rulings on Tuesday, according to court documents. Chevron had asked the top court to annul the initial 2011 ruling that had subsequently been upheld in appeals courts.
