New IMO bunker rules moving too quickly: shipowners

Stamford, Connecticut-New International Maritime Organization regulations on sulfur content in marine fuel oils are moving too quickly, before sufficient supply channels can be formed, according to shipowners and operators on the sidelines of a bunkers conference September 22. “In general, these regulation decisions are being made in-house,” said Jens Maul Jorgensen, bunker director for German ship owner/operator Oldendorff, at the 7th Annual International Bunker Industry Association convention in Stamford, Connecticut. “Not being taken into account is the physical availability of low-sulfur fuel. There needs to be more time for the physical market to be well supplied.”
