Bogota-Ecopetrol, Colombia's state-controlled oil company, sees development of heavy oil in the eastern state of Meta as its "new frontier," and foresees big increases in crude oil production there in coming years. In a wide-ranging interview October 6, Ecopetrol Chief Executive Javier Gutierrez outlined a series of integrated investments the company is making in the state and elsewhere to prepare for a significant increase in heavy crude production in the region east of the capital Bogota.
