Indian refiner BPCL moves to Q2 profit, down on Q1

Singapore-India's state-owned refiner Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited July 28 reported a net profit of Rupees 6.14 billion ($126.67 million) for the April-June quarter, versus a net loss of Rupees 10.67 billion in the corresponding period of 2008. However, the profit represented a dive from Rupees 36.28 billion in the January-March quarter. Despite the profit, Q2 income was down at Rupees 261.96 billion from Rupees 392.98 billion a year ago, due to lower prices and a marginal drop in product sales volumes, BPCL said.
