Private equity houses linked to Corus sale

A number of private investment banks and equity houses including Blackstone Group, Carlyle Group and Candover have been linked to a possible acquisition of Corus's non-core aluminium assets. Analysts have broadly welcomed the possible involvement of investment banks as they could help Corus aluminium managers achieve a management buy-out and overcome anti-competition issues. "It would make sense for a financial partner though an industrial partner such as Alcan or Alcoa would be better but would probably encounter serious anti-trust issues on the automotive and aerospace sides respectively," said a European equity analyst who asked not to be named.
