Gas prices to buoy coal this winter except for NE, SE

Based on Platts Analytics’ Bentek Energy’s gas price outlookfor winter, coal-to-gas fuel switching could reverse course from lastwinter, with the Northeast and a small subset of the Southeast the onlyareas where gas is expected to maintain its cost advantage over coal.Platts Analytics measures fuel switching by observing the dailydeviations between actual power burn and weather normalized powerburn estimates. Deviations from weather normal are assumed to bebecause of changes in competitiveness of either fuel.
