Peru has overtaken China as the world’s second-largest copper producer, with 2017 copper in concentrateproduction of 2.55Mt to be more than double its 2014 output. This surge follows the start-up of the new LasBambas, Constancia and Toromocho mines and completion of the expansion at Cerro Verde in 2015. However,this will not be an ongoing climb, as the new project pipeline is now clogged due to environmental, communityand product quality issues, and persistently weak prices.
