SHOTCRETE INNOVATIONS WITH PREFABRICATED MODULE CONSTRUCTION

The 323-331 Latrobe Street project is a 44-level high-rise which comprises the first three levels being conventionally built followed by 38 levels of prefabricated modular structure. The target for this building is from level 2 to climb one level per day (working day). Our prototype lifting indicated that lifting and placing eight modules (per floor) was achievable. The question was how do we achieve this speed of construction with concrete core and shear walls. Only way this can be achieved to spray the walls. In order to make this happen we need a high early strength high-performing shotcrete mix that will be poured and vibrated for the first 800 mm then sprayed shotcrete for the balance of the level. The shotcrete will need to be pumped up to 42 levels through piping level by level in the stair core. A typical level consists of approximately 70 cubic metres of sprayed shotcrete mix all of which will need to be completed on a one-day cycle.
