Clark Brothers Co. introduced its first angle integral engine compressor in 1935. Called the RA (right-angle) integral engine compressor, it rapidly became successful as the U.S. natural gas infrastructure was rapidly developing. As a need emerged for smaller, portable compressor units that could quickly be installed at producing fields in remote locations, manufacturers developed smaller, higher-speed versions of their reliable integral engine compressors. These "smaller" units were packaged on a steel skid with cooler, auxiliary equipment and interconnecting piping and wiring. Clark Brothers led the way with this concept, introducing the MA (midget-angle) integral inline engine compressor in 1945.
