Transduodenal Enucleation of Insulinoma in the Head of the Pancreas: A Novel Approach

Pancreatic endocrine tumors are rare lesions, wherein the functional tumors are reported to have a prevelance of 10 per million populations . Of these lesions, insulinomas are the most common tumors with an annual incidence of 1-4 per million . Insulinoma is typically sporadic, solitary and less than 2 cm in diameter. Fewer than 5% of insulinomas are larger than 3 cm. Ninety percentage or more of all insulinomas are benign [3-5]. The majority of patients diagnosed with an insulinoma are between 30 and 60 years of age with women accounting for 59% . Up to 12% of patients with insulinoma had multiple endocrine neoplasia type I syndrome and insulinomas in them are more likely to be multiple [2,6]
