An embedded system is designed and developed with INTEL'S 8OC196KB micro-controller for operating the Molecular Sieve Oxygen Generating System (MSOGS) which comprises of two zeolite beds pressurized and depressurized alternatively using two solenoid valves. The embedded system monitors the health of these two solenoids and also controls the temperature of the Oxygen sensor at 650℃ ± 3℃ in addition to sensing of temperature and monitoring the emf generated by the Oxygen sensor which is of solid state electrolyte viz. Zirconia type. It also monitors the pressure of the backup oxygen source of the total Oxygen system and issues warning signal to the pilot, if the pressure of the backup Oxygen source falls below 50 bar. The system also communicates with the master through the RS-422 interface to exchange data. The unit in addition has the provision to sense the status of sensors such as temperature & pressure and also to indicate the status of loads viz. as solenoids and heater. The provision is also made to sense high priority switch for selecting 100% Oxygen source. This paper describes 80C196KB micro-controller based embedded system used for operating the oxygen generating system which has immense use in the hospitals also. The circuit details of analogue and digital channels employed are given. The software developed to operate the whole system is resident in the EPROM The data failure on sensors or loads is stored in EEPROM and can be downloaded for analysis.
