It is a truism that most long-dreaded events fail to materialize as catastroph-ically as predicted. For the global oil industry, the well-anticipated "great crew change" or the "talent gap" is not one of those false alarms. By whatever name, the talent and skill shortage is here. And every sign by our measure is that the anticipated problems are both real and understated. Oil and gas companies today are more challenged than before to develop innovative strategies to find and train new talent. New solutions, such as poaching from other industries and canvassing for job seekers among returning veterans, have become increasingly successful.
