Nails and the clinician

Many physicians who are not dermatologists neglect the evidence that the nail apparatus is an important indicator of an individual's health and that it can manifest signs of both systemic and localized disease. Perhaps, more important to the patient is the recognition that the nails are also important aesthetic features. As such, a substantial portion of the cosmetic industry is devoted to designing products that maintain and improve the length, durability, and appearance of both the fingernails and the toenails.
