摘要

Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) is a major fraction of ambient aerosol,however,its origin and chemical composition is still largely unknown.Aromatic compounds,emitted mainly by anthropogenic activities undergo oxidation by OH radicals to form multifunctional oxidation products with low volatility leading to secondary organic particle formation.These particles consist of highly oxidized molecules with functional groups being mostly carbonyl-,hydroxyl- and carboxylic acid groups.Smog chamber studies can be used to study aerosol formation and composition in a controlled environment.In this study we used 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (TMB) in a smog chamber to produce aerosols and to analyze the overall carbonyl concentration by using a specific derivatization method for gas-chromatography mass-spectrometry (GCMS) and by analyzing specific absorption bands in infrared spectroscopy.
