摘要

Secondary organic aerosols (SOAs) in the atmosphere are produced by the oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from both anthropogenic sources and natural sources. SOAs can affect human health, reduce visibility and impact climate change. As major contributor of fine particulate matter (PM) in urban and rural area, SOA accounts for about 20-70% of fine organic PM, up to 70% in smog episodes. Beijing, the capital of China, is experiencing increasing levels of pollution in the form of suspended particulate matter, especially with an extremely high percentage of SOA. Secondary organic carbon (SOC) in Beijing was estimated to account more than 50% for the total organic carbon.
