China's State Economic and Trade Commission Announces Tenth Five-Year Plan for Steel Industry

China's State Economic and Trade Commission announced the tenth five-year plan for the country's steel industry covering 2001 through 2005, according to Japan Iron and Steel Exporters' Association. While a quantitative growth to keep the yearly crude steel output over 100 million tons was attained throughout the plan years in the ninth five-year plan from 1996 through 2000, the tenth plan looks for qualitative improvements in addition to meeting demand that continues to grow.
