Once again, steam coal prices were upped in Russia due to shipment problems related to a shortage of rolling stock as well as to demand growth. Coal on 6,000 kcal/kg basis is currently priced at $57-58/t EXW, medium-calorific coal (5,400-5,600 kcal/kg) at $46/t EXW, low-calorific (4,500-5,000 kcal/kg) at $34/t EXW. All given prices are exclusive of VAT. Business activity in Russian market will increase as power plants begin to prepare for a new heating season. In August-September consumers in Eastern Siberia and the Far East will continue filling stocks with medium-calorific and low-calorific fuel.
