摘要

Hydrobiology as a component of ecology studies supraorganismic forms of life in water environments and the structure and functioning of water ecosystems to ensure their reasonable exploitation and management. Modern hydrobiology plays an important role, even the leading role in some respects, in solving the most significant global interdisciplinary problems. These include, for example, the scientific foundations of the rational exploitation of biological resources of water reservoirs and watercourses and the basics of forecasting the state of water ecosystems under anthropogenic impacts; the causes of water eutrophication and methods of its prevention; the scientific basics of controlling the quality of waters and maintaining water purity in natural water reservoirs and in water-supply facilities; and the scientific foundations of the aquaculture of economically significant species of fish, invertebrates, and algae. The main theoretical theses of modern hydrobiology and its research tasks are formulated in the monographs of one of the authors of this article [1, 2].
