Rep Joe Barton (R-Texas) convened the first meeting of the House-Senate Energy Conference Committee Thursday, just after House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) named the House appointees. "It's absolutely imperative that we have a comprehensive national energy bill," said Barton, who chairs the conference. "Obviously we'll have differences to work out between the House and Senate bills and that is what conference committees are for."
