Healthy chicken meat platform educates consumers in Turkey

VIV Turkiye 2005 attracted many livestock producers from the Balkan countries as well as other neighbouring countries. Several new products and services were on display, showing that the industry is maturing. Misunderstandings from the general publicwere a part that required action. Following public health scares and misinformation by interest groups, the Turkish poultry industry and scientific community formed a platform to raise awareness among consumers, the media and the public in general aboutconsumption of healthy chicken products. This Healthy Chicken Meat Platform is supported by 85% of the poultry sector, which committed itself to adopt international standards of chicken meat production and in the field of food safety. It aims to encourage research, various publications, scientific reports and studies and implement educational programs, as well as to transmit accurate and reliable information to the public against groundless claims that blemish the sector. The platform presented itself during the World Veterinary Poultry Congress as well as during VIV Turkiye 2005. The initiative was well received by the industry since there was a desire to act against an increasing level of misinformation and groundless blame on issued of this rapidlygrowing agricultural sector.
