Although offshore wind projects are sprouting up in numerous spots off Europe,especially the UK,they've not gained much traction along US coastlines(WGI Feb.7,p7).The plug was pulled late last month in one of only two large-scale US offshore projects now in the permitting stage:the 40-turbine,roughly 140 megawatt capacity Long Island Offshore Wind Project sponsored by the Long Island Power Authority(Lipa).The reasons cited were a lack of political-and thus financial-support.
