摘要

With the scale of the East Mediterranean's gas finds galvanizing plans for LNG exports, global heavyweights are starting to take the region seriously. Bidders are now lining up for a 30% stake in the consortium developing the 17 trillion cubic foot (480 billion cubic meter) Leviathan field off Israel, alongside existing partners Noble Energy, the US-based operator, and Israel's Delek Group and Ratio Oil. They include Russia's Gazprom, Australia's Woodside and several Asian firms. Italy's Edison could also be in the mix: It tells WGI it is interested in Israeli gas, but is silent on whether it actually bid. Other players with interests in the Mideast Gulf may have been deterred by the region's political complexities, fearful of a backlash from Arab states. Total, for example, was understood to have expressed interest earlier this year, but a spokesman says it did not put in an offer.
