India Eyes Uniform National Gas Price

India is considering a new experiment with its currently complex gas pricing practices: a uniform domestic price. Gas is now sold for anything from $1 to $5.73 per million Btu, depending on the source. The government currently fixes the price of gas produced from blocks held by state Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) and Oil India Ltd. (OIL), while for others, pricing is at least theoretically determined in line with production sharing contracts.
