Spanish Gas Demand Weak, Maybe Weaker

Spain - European largest LNG market - seems to have virtually disappeared from the global spot LNG trading map this year, and sources in the country say no reversal is in sight. On the contrary, the trend is likely to be accentuated by the arrival of 8 billion cubic meters per year (775 million cubic feet per day) in additional Algerian pipeline gas through Medgaz this year - and by a government-backed measure that would favor the use of domestic coal over imported gas and coal in power generation.
