Mexico is advancing with its first upstream auction since ending state Pemex's 76-year constitutional monopoly. The bid round should include gas opportunities, although it's unclear if shale acreage will be offered. The CNH, Mexico's upstream regulator, approved the first chunk of acreage — 14 exploratory blocks in the shallow-water Gulf of Mexico seen as prospective for light oil — earlier this month. The data room will open on Jan. 15, companies will have until March to prequalify and the bid deadline is mid-July.
