Working in a referral dental practice, I see only those patients that general practitioners or referring veterinarians choose to send my way. Often, the reason for the referral is that the referring veterinarian and his or her staff have been managinga dental problem that is not responding well to treatment. In many cases, both the patient and client would have been better served if more aggressive diagnostics and treatment had been instituted or the patient had been referred ar a much earlier stage of the condition.
