摘要

Very few veterinarians and veterinary staff members need to be told that obesity is an epidemic that plagues our nation's pets, because they see it every day in their clinics."Our veterinarians have estimated that about 75% of our patients are overweight," said Carrie Bowgren, practice manager at Lake Road Animal Hospital, Horseheads, N.Y.And the rates of pet obesity in the United States continue to increase, according to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP). According to a 2012 APOP survey, the number of overweight cats has reached an all-time high. The annual survey found that 58.3% of cats and 52.5% of dogs are overweight or obese.
