In-Train Infotainment System for KCRC

摘要

In August 2005, KCRC launched a new multimedia system (In-Train Infotainment System) on trains in its railway network, namely East Rail, Ma On Shan Rail and West Rail. Passengers can now enjoy quasi real-time news and advertisements during their journey. The content of the news and advertisement can be updated by content providers via KCRCs wired/wireless infrastructure to the LCD screens on board the trains. The In-Train Infotainment System (ITIS) has adopted various state-of-the-art communications technologies in transmitting the updated multimedia content continuously to the trainborne computers with a mixture of passenger information messages for display on LCD screens, which is the first commercial application of these technologies the Asia-Pacific region and maybe the first in the world. This paper will present and discuss the various technologies in use and their likely development in the future.
