The DSM-V subcommittee on sexual dysfunction is attempting to redefine erectile dysfunction (ED) to pave the way to improved patient care, medical education, research, insurance reimbursement, and government policy. Integration of these diverse goals is a formidable political task that raises the question of their relative importance.
