International cooperation has been promoted among Japan, the United States, China, etc. for decoding the genomes of rice plants, while there is a big problem in the next place to be solved in connection with clarification of the functions of genes. To deal with this, H. Hirochika, the head of the Dynamic Genome laboratory of the National Institute of Agrobiological Researches, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and fisheries, has developed the world's first method for efficiently analyzing the functions of rice plant genes. Taking notice of the importance of this analytic method, a number of researchers representing leading biochemical companies in American and European countries have proposed to conduct a joint research with him.
