Signaling strategies used by sellers of high quality items are compared using data from the online sale of classic comic books. The market advantages include substantial information asymmetry and good measures of reputation. The study explores which of the signals from among reputation for quality, third party certification and information disclosure are strong and why, which are the substitutes or compliments and how selection from among the strategies depends on the reputation of the seller.
