Peptic ulcers are the leading cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Bleeding from peptic ulcers usually stops spontaneously (1). In case of severe bleeding, endoscopy can help to establish the source and to assess the risk of recurrence (2). Endoscopic haemostasis is recommended for high-risk patients (2), but bleeding recurs in 10% to 15% of cases (3), sometimes necessitating surgery (1,2). How can recurrent bleeding from peptic ulcers best be prevented?
