It also demonstrates some of the challenges which lie ahead in the broiler industry. There is abundant evidence that productivity improvements in the broiler house are one of the great success stories in twentieth century agriculture. From a faltering start in the 1940's. Using cockerels from dual-purpose breeds, to the precision managed specialist flocks of the 1990's is a leap in performance unparalleled in any other industry. However, there is frequent debate among industry participants about 'who did what' and some research from North Carolina State University reported in Poultry Science (vol.73: pages 1785-1812) provides some fascinating data.
